Alternative Woods

Alternative Woods are very capable of making world class classical guitars. There is no doubt that any of the rosewoods can make a very fine guitar and one can find luthiers offering Asian, Honduras, Amazon and Madagascar Rosewoods. Asian and Honduras Rosewoods are often recommended as direct replacement for Brazilian in terms of sound. Of the two, Asian has most interesting figure. Among the less used woods for Classicals are Mahogany, Koa and Claro Walnut.

Koa is the famous dark curly wood from Hawaii. It is rarely used in classical guitars but would make a very unique and personal instrument with a delightful sound.
